As you walk around any google space today you will see bright, fun interiors with inspiring, often playful graphics. What you may not know is nothing, and we do mean NOTHING is random. Each building has a theme, each floor has a breakdown of that theme and each wall represents an aspect of that. With that in mind, you can imagine that generating the 300 plus wallpapers that make up these first three buildings in there Sunnyvale campus was anything but boring.

There was plenty of “googling” involved throughout each brainstorm session and the end result was pure magic. As you take a look through the following pages, you will see a glimpse into some of our favorite walls as well as a peak inside the life of googlers in Sunnyvale, CA

BIOMES

A Biome is a community or large ecological area on the earth’s surface with plants and animals that have common characteristics for the environment with specific climatic conditions to suit the flora and fauna, they exist in and can be found over a range of continents. Biomes are distinct biological communities that have formed in response to a shared physical climate. We interpreted this larger definition into two categories “patterns in nature” and “survival kits” Each survival kit featured items needed to survive in that given biome. It was left up to googlers to guess the biome. All images for this theme was custom photographed using a macro lense and then enlarged to the 20ft to 12 ft tall graphics you see here.

VIDEO GAMES

The Video Game theme presented an opportunity to have a little fun with the floor. We chose to bring to life outdated gaming technology and showcase iconic gaming characters. The result was in some cases larger than life. Each graphic generated from scratch with the creative being based on the game featured.

ROBOTS

Robots presented another opportunity for both custom illustration and macro photography. Playing off of both the Honey I Shrunk the Kids and Toy Story movies, we generated scenes using vintage robots in which they were engaging in everyday spaces. A portion of these walls are captured here in these vibrant images.

SPACE

Space is a broad category with so many potential approaches. Rather than filling the floor with expected imagery of astronauts and planets, we chose to divide the walls up, showing the diversity of space. We featured everything from larger than life NASA imagery of men in space to star wars figurines to lego formations to graffiti graphics. This resulted in a diverse floor with no area feeling too similar to the next.
